Conditions on broiler farms in Africa are completely different from those in other parts of the world. With tropical weather conditions, diverse feed ingredients, and challenging management and housing circumstances at farms have resulted in conditions that are unique to this part of the world.
Traditionally, the breeds used on farms in Africa have been bred in conditions that are not native to Africa resulting in a large gap in actual field performance and genetic potential. Research has shown that adaptability of breeding stock is crucial in ensuring that genetic potential is translated into field level performance.
